Movies helping with heartbreak…
In the month of love, feeling alone? Giving up on believing? Been there done that…Here’s a list of my emotional Go To’s when its hard and heavy on the heart=) All of them are the most real and least cheesy versions of love portrayed on TV, once that are actually relatable. Love them all, it’s impossible to see them too many times=)
P.S I Love You
“You made me a man, by loving me Holly. And for that, I am eternally grateful… literally. If you can promise me anything, promise me that whenever you’re sad, or unsure, or you lose complete faith, that you’ll try to see yourself through my eyes. Thank you for the honor of being my wife. I’m a man with no regrets. How lucky am I. You made my life, Holly. But I’m just one chapter in yours. There’ll be more. I promise….”
Very real and lovely story of less than perfect but true love, that helps you to reach happiness even after death. Fights, disagreements mean nothing, if you have someone who even after many years still wants to see your face every morning. It also shows that sometimes you are meant to find true love but not meant to keep it and after you loose it life goes on and you still find your way…One of the greatest soundtracks only makes this movie even more lovable=)
If Only
“I loved you since I met you, but I wouldn’t allow myself to truly feel it until today. I was always thinking ahead, making decisions soaked with fear… Today, because of you… what I learned from you; every choice I made was different and my life has completely changed… and I’ve learned that if you do that, then you’re living your life fully… it doesn’t matter if you have five minutes or fifty years. Samantha if not for today, if not for you I would never have known love at all… So thank you for being the person who taught me to love… and to be loved…”
This one teaches you to never underestimate what you have and the time you have, because one might go through life never truly knowing love until finding it way too late. Feeling like very second or last priority in someones life is quite familiar, therefore for me very relatable. This movie doesn’t have Hollywoods finest, but the meaning of is what makes it worth watching. Also, the bracelet gift, in my opinion is the perfect gift for one you love=)
The Break-Up
“I just don’t know how we got here. Our entire relationship, I have gone above and beyond for you, for us. I’ve cooked, I’ve picked your shit up off the floor, I’ve laid your clothes out for you like you’re a four year old. I support you, I supported your work. If we ever had dinner or anything I did the plans, I take care of everything. And I just don’t feel like you appreciate any of it. I don’t feel you appreciate me. All I want is to know, is for you to show me that you care…”
Once again – cherish what you have, before it’s too late. Love how real the break up is portrayed, once again – been there done that – going way out of limits with still secret hope it somehow all will be fine, until it isn’t…and you truly don’t have anything to give anymore. One of my all time favorite.
Sex and the City
“Some love stories aren’t epic novels, some are short stories. But, that doesn’t make them any less filled with love.”
Both, the series and the movies are my holy Bible! I envy the friendships and the love stories and so much feels relatable. Off course I’m Carrie, most of us probably feel like Carrie=)
This portraying of way less than perfect love, gives you hope, finding one even quite late in your life. It’s not one of those stories, when their eyes met and they lived happily ever after. Sometimes even after 10 years, the same man can still hurt you. I’m giving up on my Mr. Big now, just sadly I don’t think he will eventually come find me wherever I’ll be just to tell me finally that I’m the one…oh well, but wishing doesn’t hurt (much). This series and movies are perfect for everyone who wants to learn more about women or about friendships or about sex. So if there’s someone still out there, man or woman, who hasn’t seen this unreplacable creation, go and watch! And if you’re having a heartbreak, the 6 seasons and 2 movies will be plenty to accompany you in the healing process, just don’t forget to prepare a glass of cosmopolitan, it goes along very well while watching=)
500 days of Summer
“This is a story of boy meets girl. The boy, Tom Hansen of Margate, New Jersey, grew up believing that he’d never truly be happy until the day he met the one. This belief stemmed from early exposure to sad British pop music and a total mis-reading of the movie ‘The Graduate’. The girl, Summer Finn of Shinnecock, Michigan, did not share this belief. Since the disintegration of her parent’s marriage she’d only love two things. The first was her long dark hair. The second was how easily she could cut it off and not feel a thing. Tom meets Summer on January 8th. He knows almost immediately she is who he has been searching for. This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story….”
Another movie with not so happy ending. Still giving hope though, which is what one needs most while going through the hard accepting and letting go process…I was always Summer, till my last hard crush where I became Tom. Now I believe it’s my karma, to get to feel how the other side felt. I kinda hate this movie for not ending well, cause it really makes you see that things don’t always do, but yet, in the end, I guess I’ll have to wait for my “Autumn” and that’s something nice to hold on to while the heart is breaking. Once again – the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic, and if soundtrack is, the movie is too=)
A Walk to Remember
“Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous. Love is never boastful or conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense and is not resentful.”
Old and involving youth, so maybe a little bit less relatable to more mature audience, differently than all the previous movies, but still beautiful and simple movie, showing how love can overcome obstacles, change people and still be there after the loved one is lost…I really love the dedication and creativity of the boy, when making the girl he loves happy. The soundtrack is very great too.
Griffin and Pheonix
“I was talking to this idiot the other day and as he looked back from the mirror I realized I was right about one thing. There is an answer… and the answer is being with you. I love you for better or for worse, this time we that we have, this can be part of the better part, because we’ll be together and that way everything even this is better… good even…”
A beautiful, teary story, about two people finding each other when their time is running out, but they make the time, best time of their lives…Reminds you that what’s meant to be will be even when it seems like it’s the most wrong time or it’s too late, but it’s never too late to meet your soulmate, as cheesy as it sounds=) Also, reminds you to pay attention to everything in your life cause you don’t know when you might be doing something for the last time…
The Notebook
“So it’s not gonna be easy. It’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me… everyday.”
Ok, this one might be a bit the cheesy one, but still it’s irreplaceable, no matter all the attempts to recreate this fascinating love story, non will be same effective as this one. There’s just one of those most wished love stories – till death do us part. The dedication and love against all obstacles is truly remarkable, specially when it had falling outs and many hard times on the way. I believe everybody has seen it at least once and in truly sad times this is the last piece to see to round up the heartbreak period=) The actors are also perfectly fitting in this movie, no other duo actually managed to be same successful.
And on a little bit more fun mode….
Friends with Benefits
“It’s not who you want to spend Friday night with, it’s who you want to spend all day Saturday with.”
First movie that actually shows the friends with benefits story right, I mean there is a difference between the F*** buddy and friends with benefits, mostly the friends part is forgotten. And even though not all situations like that end like in this movie, till the ending, I love how the movie does justice to this term. Also, it’s hilarious, has perfect collection of actors and great great soundtrack=)
Ugly truth
“Let me tell you something about women. Women would have us believe that they are the victims; That we break their hearts for sport. That’s crap. They say they want romance, they say they want true love, but all they want is a check list. Is he perfect? Is he handsome? Is he a doctor? For you men who fit the criteria, don’t kid yourselves. Cuz they’re not sleeping with you, they’re sleeping with a carefully calculated set of venal choices. Money over substance, looks over soul, polished over principles. No gesture, no matter how real or romantic will ever compensate for a really impressive list of credentials.”
Ok, first of all, Katherine Heigl deserves an oscar for the scene in the restaurant, those who saw this movie, know what I’m talking about=) Perfect actors combination, plenty of fun, and plenty of sad truth that for quite a while there make you loose any interest or believe in ever finding love, but in the end, if two people like that can, then it kinda restores your believe a little bit too=)
When In Rome
You could get your heart broken or… you could have the greatest love affair the world has ever known. But you’re never gonna know unless you try…
The whole point of love is to put someone else’s needs above your own…
When you love your job so much and then find someone who you love more than your job – now that’s love…Great actors and soundtrack, plenty of fun, with beautiful meaning above all – finding love even if you’re not searching, in most unexpected way=) Very fun to see Kristen and her real life husband in most unloving pairing=)
Also to this list belong two Baz Luhrmans masterpieces – Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge. But that’s pretty much all of the movies that naturally and fast come to my mind when thinking of the times when you stay in your pajamas for too long, with a little too much junk food and tissues or alcohol in a reach of hand…=)
Sincerely,
S.
