Erdem…
Only recently noticed designer, that caught my attention immediately and made a fan. I noticed his dress on Emma Watson in one of events and just had to find out who made that stunning artwork. Apparently it wasn’t one time beauty, it’s the style of this designer and it’s a very elegant, girly and playful style that I adore!
Erdem Moralıoğlu more commonly known as Erdem was born 1977 in Montreal, Canada and is a Canadian-born British-Turkish fashion designer. He grew up between Montreal and Birmingham, England. Currently he is living and operating a studio in Bethnal Green, east London. He has a twin sister Sara, who is making TV documentaries about geography and natural history.
He earned a B.A. in fashion from Ryerson University in Toronto and then worked as an intern for Vivienne Westwood. Later Moralioğlu moved to London to study fashion at the Royal College of Art. Upon receiving his master’s degree, he proceeded to go onto closing the 2003 RCA show with his graduate collection. He then moved to New York where he worked alongside Diane von Furstenberg before relocating back to London to launch his own label in 2005.
His imaginative debut collection won him the £100,000 Fashion Fringe prize and he has staged four London Fashion Week shows as well as being awarded with the Swarovski British Fashion Council Fashion Enterprise Award in 2007.
His label “Erdem” is now sold globally in more than 50 premiere department and specialty stores including Barney’s throughout the United States and Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Liberty & Co. in the United Kingdom. In 2009 Cutler and Gross collaborated with Erdem to create a collection of sunglasses for the Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The collection was inspired by an image of a Japanese fisherwoman dressed in brightly printed shorts charging out from the waves across black sand.
In 2010, Moralioğlu was awarded the inaugural British Fashion Council/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund which included a £200,000 prize which is the biggest sum ever awarded to a fashion designer in the United Kingdom.
His signature is “color, optimism and oddities.” He says, his goal is to create pieces that are special and individual. He surely manages to do that.
I am really mesmerized by all the colors, shapes and combinations he makes, it absolutely stunning, no wonder he is one of favorite British designer among many Hollywood starlets. I think his designs are not so often seen pieces of art in=)
So check out his website 1, website 2. Here’s one of the places where you can get his designs online.
And now few of his designs, I dare you not to love them!=)
Sincerely,
S.
