A man with mesmerizing smile…I think the most beautiful smile I have ever seen! I fell in love with it on the 10th season of American Idol. He actually was the reason I watched that show at all, and he is the one I remember best from it. His album was blasting on repeat for a while, few years back, and now I was reminded about how awesome he is=) Sadly, love was not mutual and he married Nikki Reed, but hey, she’s fantastic, so can’t be mad about it…they are going to have the most handsome babies in the world for sure!=) Ok so who is this hot singer…it’s Paul McDonald, a name very easily remembered=)
Paul McDonald (born William Paul McDonald; August 29, 1984) is an American singer/songwriter from Huntsville, Alabama, who as of 2011 resides in Nashville, Tennessee.
In the spring of 2005, he and fellow student Jonathan Pears began writing songs together, forming the band Hightide Blues. Adding two other members, Cragon Sims and Scott Rollins, they began touring small clubs around the state of Alabama. In 2006, McDonald put his education in Auburn University on hold to pursue a full-time career in music. After a limited edition self-titled EP Hightide Blues in 2007, the band released in 2008 a self-produced album, Love Come Easy, which was recorded in an old boarding school turned recording studio, operated by David Briggs, called the House of David in Nashville, Tennessee. The album garnered radio play from the songs “Dreamin’ Alone” and “Let It Roll”. Also included was a song called “Dancing with the Angels (Meg’s Song)”. McDonald wrote this song the night before the funeral of a close friend to the band, Meg Ingram, who died of cancer at the age of 21. McDonald performed the song at her memorial service. The band performs annually at the Meg Ingram Memorial Scholarship benefit concert in Huntsville.
From 2007 to 2010, the band continued touring around the country, performing with musicians such as the Zac Brown Band, Sarah Bareilles, and JJ Grey and Mofro. In August 2010, McDonald and his band members moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and launched a campaign to let their fans choose a new name for the band. The group’s first album under its new name, entitled The Grand Magnolias, was released in 2011.
On January 27, 2011, McDonald received a golden ticket to compete in Hollywood from judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson, and made it into the Top 24 by singing an original song, “American Dreams.” He was one of ten candidates chosen as a finalist based on public voting. Sadly McDonald was eliminated from the show on April 14, 2011, with a finish of 8th place.
The best two things that came out of the show is great promotion to his band The Grand Magnolias and the meeting of his wife, that everyone witnessed. It’s truly almost fairy tale like, and happened on a red carpet of a fairy tale movie Red Ridding Hood. Nikki Reed was the lucky lady that got the chance to meet her crush that she saw on TV previously. Even though he didn’t seem to know who she was, the attraction was mutual, since soon after engagement, the wedding followed. The love and the glow of happiness continues to shine from both of them, specially from Nikki Reed, who seems so happy that it hurts to see cause it makes me very jealous=)
The love brought her not only happiness, but also a new way to express herself creatively. She was screenwriter, producer, actress and model and now to addition to that she’s singer/songwriter. This year, Nikki and Paul released an album together called “The Best Part”. Nikki also wrote a song for Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, which is also on the official soundtrack. She performs that song with her hubby. The song is very beautiful as is the whole album “The Best part”.
Now, this latest album was a reminder for me about Paul and his great music. The fact that Nikki is part of it, and I’m huge Nikki fan, makes it just so much cooler=)
Even though it was Paul’s smile that caught my eyes, but it’s his music, his lyrics and melodies, his unique and exceptional voice that made me a fan. I hope if you weren’t fan till now, you’ll become one too…=)
And here’s something old and something new…songs that I know oh so well. There’s much much more, so don’t forget to explore, but for now – enjoy!=)
The first meeting of lovers=)
